City Council to consider rezonings, condemnations

Two public hearings, a presentation from the Wayne County Health Department and condemnation of four dilapidated dwellings will be on Monday's docket as Goldsboro City Council members hold their final meeting of the month.
Chief Building Inspector Ed Cianfarra is expected to recommend the condemnation and demolition of homes located at 211 Pine St., 112 Slocumb St., 605 Isler St. and 1103 Lemon St. All four dwellings have run through all three phases of minimum housing, officials said.
Two public hearings also will be on the council's agenda.
The first regards a rezoning request from Johnson Construction Co. for land located on the east side of Country Day Road, between Patetown Road and Wheeler Drive. Property owners want to have the tract rezoned from residential to residential conditional district.
The second involves public input for a U.S. 70 management study and recommendations.
The council will also hear a presentation from Brenda Bass with the Wayne County Health Department. Mrs. Bass is expected to address Lead Poisoning Awareness month and to discuss the safety hazards associated with living in homes painted with lead-based products.
Council is also expected to take action on a request from the Inspections Department that involves allocation of additional funding for their mosquito prevention program. According to reports from that department, a rainy summer led to the exhaustion of funds for the program.
At the end of their meeting, council members will open up the floor to the public.
The meeting will be in the second-floor conference room at City Hall and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Those who attend the meeting are asked to turn off or mute all cell phones and pagers upon entry.
