Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers will host the second phase of Wayne's Most Talented singing contest this week.

A total of 25 contestants will deliver live performances beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wayne Community College's auditorium. The singing contest will be patterned after the hit television show "American Idol."

The cost is $5. The audience will decide which of the 20 contestants will advance to the third phase of the singing contest.

The live performances will be taped on Thursday and will be featured during Crime Stoppers annual telethon from 1 to 11 p.m. Nov. 11 and 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12. The telethon, which will be held at Parker Advertising on Ash and Claiborne streets, will be featured on TimeWarner cable channel, PACC-10.

The singer with the most votes will win $1,000 and a half-day recording session. The prize money will come from an anonymous source and not from the Crime Stoppers fund, law enforcement coordinator Sgt. Dot Ardes said.

Proceeds from the telethon will benefit Crime Stoppers. Officials with the organization said they hope to exceed their all-time high of $43,000.
