FAISON -- The 3rd Annual Market Day Festival will be held Saturday in downtown Faison to honor the area's produce farmers.
Activities begin at 8 a.m. with a 5-kilometer, which will be followed by a "kid's dash" at Faison Park. A parade with 30 entries starts at 10 a.m. on Main Street and turns south at the Faison Fire Department, where an opening ceremony follows at 10:30 in front of the fire station. Winners of the cooking and beautiful baby contests will be announced following the ceremony.
Market Day Chairman Lisa Patterson said more vendors have signed up than ever before, and she is still receiving phone calls this week from people wanting to reserve a space. So far, 25 vendors have signed up to participate in Market Day.
The prints of Heather Williams' painting are going fast, she said.
The original is 22x40 inches, and the prints are 12x24 inches. The sale of the special prints during the Market Day Festival on Oct. 21 will help the Faison Improvement Group pay for future festivals. The prints will go for $25 each, and the original will be placed on silent auction for two weeks at the restaurant.
"We ordered 150 prints, and 90 are gone now," Ms. Patterson said. She said the prints can be ordered by calling her at 921-0029 or the Southern Exposure restaurant at 910-267-0496.
Dogs on leashes are welcome to the festival.
The Clinton Car Club will have a display of antique cars.
Magician Dave Risley will perform at 11:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. at the Faison Community Building.
Children's activities and inflatables will be provided behind the Faison Community Building on West Main Street.
Also at the Community Building, there will be a cake walk and a performance by Kim Holmes at 3:45 p.m. Other performances will include Leigh Williams' Arts Company of Faison at noon and 12:30 p.m.
Fatback and the Cadillacs of Wilson will play a variety of music including beach, rhythm and blues, top 40, and country from noon until 3 p.m. at the Main Street stage. And more dancers will perform at 4:40 p.m. at the Community Building.
