From staff reports

The 2006-07 Leadership Wayne County Class began its year with a retreat to Camp Seafarer in Arapohoe.

The 19-member class met at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 15 and spent a day and a half participating in team-building exercises, building trust and camaraderie.

Only a week later on Sept. 21, the class was introduced at the Wayne County Business After Hours. Class members will now meet one Friday a month for the next seven months for educational sessions that offer an inside look into Wayne County and show ways to get involved in the community. Also, class members will have the opportunity to participate in board training sessions, which is a new component to leadership training that is received in Leadership Wayne County.

During the next seven months the class will choose, design and implement a project to benefit the county and its citizens. Upon successful completion of the 2006-07 program, class members will graduate in May 2007.

Leadership Wayne County's goal is to create a corps of leaders who are dedicated to the betterment of the community through service. The program is designed to assist emerging leaders as well as individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential to prepare them for leadership positions in local business, industry, non-profit and community and governmental affairs. The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and the Wayne Charitable Partnership sponsor the program.
