WCDS helps in cancer fundraiser

Wayne Country Day School Students donned denim today in an effort to help in the fight against breast cancer.
Today won't be an ordinary "casual Friday" at the school, said teacher Pam Diffee, who also serves as advisory for AMITY, the school's mentoring sorority for girls.
Students were encouraged to wear denim to class in exchange for a $5 donation to the Women's Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. Lee Natonal Denim Day has raised more than $60 million for cancer research.
Funds will be used to support a groundbreaking scientific project to detect breast cancer in its earliest stage. They will also help accelerate treatment research and increase patient access to some of the most significant clinical trials in the nation, as well as support grassroots programs across the country.
"Lee National Denim Day is extremely important to our students, as many of them have been personally touched by the disease," Ms. Diffee said. "We appreciate participating tremendously because it empowers everyone to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer, it's a great educational program within our school walls, and it is so easy for us to implement. It is especially important for young girls to be involved in this way. It makes the search for a cure more personal and meaningful to them."
The school will also put their own twist on the event by hosting a "Pink Luncheon" in the Charger Café that day to commemorate their fundraising accomplishments and further the message of the importance of early detection.
