A Goldsboro man faces charges of vehicular homicide in connection with a two-vehicle accident in Pikeville that left a Kenly man dead last month.
Randy Lee Mills, 48, of Mills Road, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed and improper passing, in connection with the death of 68-year-old Preston Lewis Valentine of Pinkney Road, State Highway Patrol officials said.
Mills was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban when he allegedly struck and killed Valentine, who was driving a moped. The accident occurred on Sept. 26 on N.C. 581 North near Nahunta road.
"Both were traveling north on N.C. 581," Trooper Frankie Davis said. "The Suburban attempted to go around the moped and the moped attempted to turn left into a subdivision on Kiowa Place in the Pike's Landing subdivision."
The force of the crash crushed Valentine's moped, which landed in a ditch. Mills' vehicle, which was owned by RWR Logging Inc., was also damaged. Valentine, who was well known by many, died at the scene, officials said.
