FAISON -- Organizers are seeking vendors and sponsors for the 3rd Annual Market Day Festival set for Oct. 21 in Faison.
They say this year's event will feature more activities than ever, including a pretty baby contest and a recipe contest. The festival is designed to honor the area's produce farmers and will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies.
To enter the parade, call parade chairman Bill Creech at 910-267-1782.
Fat Back and the Cadillacs will perform at noon and 3 p.m. on Main Street, and there will be an antique car display. Children's activities and games will be held all the day. And there will be performances at 11:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. by magician Dave Risley.
Mothers who want to enter their little ones in the baby contest should call Lisa Patterson at 919-921-0029 . The entry fee is $5. Vendors can also call Ms. Patterson to reserve a space for their booth. Craft booth rentals are $50, and food booth rentals are $100.
A local artist, Heather Williams, has come up with a special print that will be available for sale to commemorate the town's agricultural heritage. T-shirts based on the print will be sold for $12.
An unveiling of the print will be held Oct. 8 from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Southern Exposure restaurant.
The recipe contest will be judged by Southern Exposure chef Joani Babcock. Entries should be vegetable side dishes for four in a disposable container delivered to the chef by 3 p.m. on Oct. 13.
So far, sponsors include Bay Valley Foods, Coca-Cola, Southern Exposure restaurant and the town.
