Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair will open gates this Thursday

In a few days, the sounds, sights and smells of the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair return to the fairgrounds.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Thursday. Livestock weigh-ins will begin Wednesday.
This year, Powers Great American Midways will run 48 rides through Oct. 7. Riders of all ages can by a $15 all-day pass on weekdays and Sunday or individual tickets throughout the week, fair officials said.
Monday will be the bargain day, with $1 off the regular admission and unlimited rides for $10. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students with a school ticket.
Local beauties will compete for the Queen of the Fair crown at 8 p.m. Friday in the Entertainment Arena. Crystal Vinson, the 2005 Queen of the Fair, will crown the new queen.
Other contests include pie baking, a salute to senior citizens, a spelling bee, livestock judging, talent shows, tractor competitions and an ugly truck contest.
Free entertainment will be provided for pre-schoolers and kindergarten students Oct. 2-6 from 9 a.m. until noon on the Kidsville Stage just outside the red Main Exhibit Building. Two pretend cows, Fairlybelle and Wayneabelle, will be on hand for children to milk. Children will also be able to try their luck at pumping water the old-fashioned way with an old-timey "pitcher pump." And for those who really want to see what chores were like in the olden days, the Vintage Farm Equipment Display will have an old-timey washing machine -- operational and washing clothes.
Cheerleaders will enter competition at 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the Grandstand.
A Demolition Derby will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday and Oct. 7 at the Grandstand.
The fireworks display will be at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and on Oct. 6 and 7 over the Grandstand.
