Thirteen girls to compete Friday for Queen of the Fair

Talent and beauty will rule the stage Friday at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair when 13 contestants vie for the title of Queen of the Fair.

The competition will start at 8 p.m. in the Entertainment Arena at the fairgrounds on U.S. 117 south.

The fair opens Thursday and runs through Oct. 7.

The contestants are:

*Jessica Barfield, a sophomore at Rosewood High School, the daughter of Shirley and Melvin Barfield. She will sing.

*Karli Beasley, a senior at Rosewood High School, the daughter of Gary and Lisa Beasley. She will sing.

*Kareema Eady, a freshman as Southern Wayne High School, the daughter of Nikki and Charlie Brown. She will dance.

*Chadaya Hicks, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hicks. She will dance.

*Amanda Marie Kiefer, a junior at Spring Creek High School, the daughter of Annette McCullough and Michael Powers. She will perform a dramatic monologue.

*Charmell Kittrell, a junior at Southern Wayne High School, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hall. She will dance.

*Julia Lancaster, a senior at Charles B. Aycock High School, the daughter of Ronald and Jane Lancaster. She will sing.

*Betsy Mitchell, a freshman at Eastern Wayne High School, the daughter of Laura and Norm Mitchell. She will sing.

*Merle Palomo, a senior at Spring Creek High School, the daughter of Baldemar and Maria Torres. She will dance.

*Emily Perkins, a junior at Charles B. Aycock High School, the daughter of Kevin Perkins and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Thomas. She will sing.

*Emily Taylor, a senior at Southern Wayne High School, the daughter of Jerry and Gina Taylor. She will sing.

*Chelsea Grey Vinson, a senior at Eastern Wayne High School, the daughter of Doug and Joy Vinson. She will dance.

*Ashley Winders, a senior at Charles B. Aycock High School, the daughter of Carey and Teresa Winders. She will dance.
