Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Wayne County Sheriff's Department are warning residents about a female con artist operating in the area. Authorities say a woman callingherself "Rose Whitley," has been taking money from residents using a "sob story." The suspect has been operating in the area of U.S. Hwy. 13 North near the Greene County Line. The suspect has told several victims she is from Greenville, Rocky Mount or Wilmington and she is stranded here with her two children. She has promised to pay them back by mailing a money order. The suspect has been using the same story for at least six months. She is described as white, about 25-30 years old, about 5-feet-6, heavyset with dark brown hair.
