Local heroes have been and will continue to be welcomed on the flight line at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base every day this month, marking the end of their four- to six-month deployments throughout Southwest Asia, base officials said.

More than 500 airmen are expected to return from tours in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Pilots, Weapons Systems Operators and their F-15E Strike Eagles will be among those who touch down in the coming weeks.

While airmen in small numbers return all the time, officials said in roughly two weeks, a group of hundreds will fly in and are expected to be welcomed with a reception of family, friends and comrades.
