Tropical Storm Helene has failed to strengthen as much as the National Hurricane Center predicted but is still forecast to become a hurricane in the next few days.
The track of Helene re-mains in question. A turn to the north, which would send it further out into the Atlantic and away from the U.S. coast, depends on whether a weather system will cause it to turn toward the west.
Meanwhile, as of 5 a.m., the National Hurricane Center reported that the center of the storm was located near latitude 15 North, longitude 40.3 West or 1,060 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands.
Helene moves toward the west-northwest near 15 mph with a decrease in forward speed expected in the next 24 hours.
