More than 95 people gathered at the First Baptist Church community building on John Street to pay tribute to the men and women of the Goldsboro Police Department and the Goldsboro Fire Department.
The event was sponsored by the Goldsboro Jaycees.
"Don't ever think that you don't make a difference," said guest speaker Ernest Grant, a registered nurse and outreach clinician for N.C. Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals.
Grant told the public safety workers that just their presence and knowing that they will be there when needed was a blessing.
Goldsboro City Councilman Bob Waller also told the public safety workers that their dedication and selfless service had not been overlooked.
"Every day you're a hero. I believe that," he said.
The event was sponsored by the Goldsboro Jaycees, an organization that teaches adults 21-40 the importance of community service and charitable deeds.
The group were serenaded by the Center Stage Theatre while they enjoyed a meal catered by McCalls BBQ, Jersey Mike's Subs and Franklin Baking Co.
