A Goldsboro businesswoman was seriously injured when an 80-year-old woman drove into the front glass window of Quality Cleaners on Wayne Memorial Drive and pinned her behind the counter.
Larose Whaley Caison of Live Oak Drive was behind the wheel of a 2006 Volkswagen about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the business, which is located at 1801 Wayne Memorial Drive. Ms. Caison told police that her foot slipped off the brake and pressed the accelerator.
Ms. Caison's car jumped the curb and drove into the plate glass window and front counter of the business, Goldsboro Assistant Fire Chief Gary Whaley said.
"There was a lady behind the counter," Whaley said. "The co-owner of the business was pinned behind the counter. She had very serious injuries."
Emergency crews responded and transported the owner, Vicki Fordham Foster, 42, of Ash Street, to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Foster was lifeflighted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville for further treatment.
Whaley said the accident caused about $5,000 to $6,000 in damages.
Ms. Caison was not hurt in the collision. She was cited for failure to reduce speed, police said.
