Here is the background information provided from Wayne County Public Schools about schools in the Spring Creek district of the county, presented to those attending Monday night's public forum with the master facilities plan committee to discuss construction needs. It was distributed to the advisory councils from each of the schools in advance and then handed out at the public meeting. Plans are for similar information to be distributed and then discussed at each of the remaining four forums scheduled around the county in the coming weeks.

SCHOOL AMOUNT PROPOSED:

*Spring Creek Elementary -- $3.5 million

*Spring Creek High -- 0

*New middle school -- $14.5 million

INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS

BACKGROUND AND PLANS

SPRING CREEK ELEMENTARY -- Constructed in 1999 (state bond money), original capacity 650; renovations and additions -- N/A

* Current capacity: 650

* Current enrollment: 876

* Mobile units: 13 classrooms, 1 restroom unit

* Facility plans: two-story building, classrooms and restrooms; electrical upgrades, HVAC upgrades; new flooring (replace floor covering).

SPRING CREEK HIGH -- Constructed in 1979, original capacity 624; renovations and additions -- 1986, 1996 (state bond); since 1996, new classrooms were added and some extensive renovations in other classrooms were completed. This school used to house K-8 before the new elementary school was built.

* Current capacity: 850

* Current enrollment: 986

* Mobile units: 11

NEW SCHOOL -- Proposed for grades 7-8, 750-student capacity, approximately 124,000- square-foot building.

OTHER MEETING DATES

Sept. 18 - Goldsboro High School for Carver Heights, North Drive and School Street elementary schools, Edgewood Community Developmental School, Dillard Middle and Goldsboro Intermediate schools.

Sept. 25 - at Southern Wayne High, including Brogden Primary and Middle schools, Carver Elementary, Grantham, Mount Olive Middle and Southern Academy.

Oct. 2 - at Rosewood High for the elementary, middle and high schools.

Oct. 9 - at Eastern Wayne High for the elementary, middle and high schools as well as Meadow Lane Elementary, Greenwood Middle and Tommy's Road Elementary.
