Goldsboro police are searching for a suspect who stormed into a motel room at the Lodge Inn, shot the occupant and stole his wallet this morning.

Police responded to the Lodge Inn, 2306 Norwood Ave., at 5 a.m., just five minutes after the shooting.

Ronald Edward Vandiford, 41, of Cow Branch Road, Snow Hill, told police that an unidentified black male entered his room, assaulted him, shot him in the thigh and stole his wallet, Goldsboro police said. The wallet contained $30, police said.

The robber then speeded away from the motel in a blue Chevrolet truck.

Vandiford, an employee of the North Carolina Driver's License Office on Grantham Street, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. He is listed in good condition.

An all-points bulletin was issued for the suspect, who was last seen wearing a jersey and blue jeans, police said.

Anyone with information on this armed robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they might be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
