Wes Seegars named chairman of state Wildlife Commission

RALEIGH -- Goldsboro businessman Wes Seegars is the new chairman of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
He fills the position to serve the remaining year of the term of the late John Pechmann of Fayetteville who died suddenly in July.
Appointed to the Wildlife Commission initially by Governor Jim Hunt and subsequently by Governor Mike Easley, Seegars was serving his third term as vice chairman. Steve Windham of Winnabow was elected to succeed him as vice chairman.
Seegars, president of Seegars Fence Company, earlier served six years as a member of the N.C. Department of Commerce and two terms on the State Tax Review Commission -- all gubernatorial appointments.
At the local level, he has served as president of the Chamber of Commerce of Wayne County, chairman of the Wayne County Economic Development Commission and in numerous other capacities.
An avid outdoorsman, Seegars has hunted big game in many parts of the world and recently won national acclaim as winner of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.
He is a business administration graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and is married to the former Jacque Waters. They have two sons, Ben and John, of Goldsboro and a daughter, Sallie Batchelor, of Greensboro.
Seegars is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal W. Seegars of Goldsboro.
