WCC instructors honored

Two Wayne Community College instructors have been honored with the college's third set of Distinguished Chair awards.
Faye Best, agriculture and natural resources department head, and Rosalyn Lomax, English and academic orientation instructor, will each receive $5,000 to use for professional development, program-related travel or materials for their classes, or campus activities.
A 1974 graduate of Wayne Community College, Ms. Best has taught agriculture at the college for more than 32 years. She has served as an advisor to the college's agriculture club and served on and led numerous internal committees. A Rosewood resident, she has two adult sons.
Mrs. Lomax is in her 24th years of teaching full time at Wayne Community. In addition to teaching literature and writing classes, she recruits and trains instructors for the College Student Success course for which she authored the textbook.
She was the 1988 recipient of the college's George E. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award. She has also advised several student clubs, is an editor of the college's art and literary magazine Renaissance and regulartly performs in campus and community plays.

The Distinguished Chair awards were made possible by a gift to the Foundation of Wayne Community College by an anonymous donor. Math instructor Peggy Womble and business instructor Beth Hooks were the first recipients of the honor. Last year's winners were Dr. Cindy Archie, allied health and public services division head, and Gene Smith Jr., mathematics and science department head.
