Assault with
deadly weapon
A 34-year-old man was arrested after trying to run over a police officer with a police car.
Corey Barnett was charged with assault, assault with a deadly weapon, driving while license revoked, driving left of center, and resisting arrest.
According to police, Barnett was arrested at a traffic stop at the intersection of George and Holland streets Saturday about 8 p.m. He was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of a patrol car. Officers said he crawled over the seat, took the wheel of the patrol car and tried to run over the officers at the scene.
Stabbing
Shelly Bernard Ford, 56, Glenwood Trail, said he was stabbed in the chest with a butcher knife Sunday morning someone he knows. He received three stitches at Wayne Memorial Hospital and was released. Upon arrival home, he said he found several knives, a cell phone and $750 worth of jewelry missing.
Investigations
*Sheriff's deputies are investigating the theft of a 1996 burgundy Nissan Sentra, reported stolen from a property on N. Beston Road by its owner, Benjamin Joseph Waters of LaGrange, on Friday afternoon.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Jackye Johnson of Park Avenue reported the theft of an $800 scooter from her backyard.
*Gerald Don Ramey said a vehicle parked on Rockefeller Court was broken into early Sunday. Among the items stolen were a $40 bookbag, three college textbooks worth $330 and $60 worth of CDs.
*Megan Snead said someone did $1,500 worth of damage to a vehicle parked on the 1000 block of N. Spence Avenue Saturday about 9:50 p.m.
*Susan Hines of Dudley reported the theft of a green 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan Saturday from the 1100 block of S. George Street. It was valued at $1,500.
*Jared RhyneHart reported the theft of several vehicles from a lot near his home on Fallin Boulevard early today. Taken were a $1,600 trailer, an all-terrain vehicle worth $8,000, a green dirt bike valued at $1,000, and a 1996 blue four-wheeler worth $5,000.
Accidents
Goldsboro police investigated an accident involving three cars Saturday afternoon on U.S. 70 East. Charles Lucus Tripp, 47, Georgetown Drive, Wilson, was charged with a safe movement violation after the accident. The two other cars were being driven by Adam Lewis Gabriel, 28 Heron Drive, and Joseph Scott Braswell, Jr., 19, Friendly Drive. Tripp's vehicle was not damaged. Estimates to the other vehicles were set at $1,700 for Gabriel's car and $1,100 for Braswell's.
