Telethon raises funds to fight sickle cell anemia

The Epicurean Civic Club held its annual Sickle Cell Drive at Berkeley Mall Saturday.
Among the featured entertainment during the event was Miss Goldsboro Brittany Wheeler, The Goldsboro Ballet, BSA Gospel Singers, Interpretation Dancers with Cheryl Gibson, gospel singer DeMarcus Kelly and Set Apart Gospel Singers.
This year's fundraiser goal is $10,000, said Curtis Meadow Jr., event chairman. Several civic groups are soliciting donations at various businesses, and pledges will be accepted through Sept. 30.
Pledges may be made by calling 734-6120 or mailing a check payable to the Sickle Cell Association, Eastern N.C. Chapter and mailed to Epicurean Civic Club, P.O. Box 1882, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533.
