Investigations

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating these reports:

*Southern Wayne Sanitary District of 1370 Old Grantham Road reported the theft of a $2,500 fire hydrant from the roadway on U.S. 117 Alternate at Gold Park Drive. Southern Wayne officials said the fire hydrant was struck by an 18-wheeler and was sitting on the side of the road awaiting repair when it was stolen some time between the night of Aug. 9 and Monday morning.

*Someone reportedly broke into a $5,000 mobile home on Beaver Drive owned by Senus Lofton of Prayer House Lane, Dudley, and set it on fire. The trailer was last secured Saturday, and the fire reportedly occurred Sunday. The report came in to investigators Monday morning. No firefighters were called to the trailer, which was abandoned with no water or electricity going to it. A witness said he saw a 1980 Chevrolet pick-up truck pull into the drive way to the trailer around 1 a.m. Sunday with its lights out.

*Detectives are investigating a report of forgery and uttering filed Thursday. Danny Earl Grady of Mills Loop Road, Mount Olive, said someone forged his name on two checks and used them for purchases of $201.
