A man found dead in a burned vehicle last week in Kenly has been identified, but the state's medical examiner's office has not determined how he died, Johnston County Sheriff's Office officials said.

David Wayne Miller, 44, of 1121 Hickory Crossroads Road, was found by Kenly Fire Department firefighters after they extinguished Miller's 1991 Chevrolet S10 Blazer Thursday at about 9:40 p.m., Johnston Sheriff's Office spokesperson Tammy Amaon said.

Firefighters were called to Miller's residence to extinguish a car fire and found his body in the Blazer, Ms. Amaon said. Detectives were called to the scene and began a suspicious death investigation. Miller's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for identification and to determine the cause of death.

Until the state medical examiner's office determines how Miller died, Ms. Amaon said the Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident as a suspicious death.

Johnston Sheriff's Office Lt. Fred Dees said the county could receive information from the state medical examiner's office by Wednesday afternoon.
