Checkpoint
yields 68 charges
Wayne County law enforcement officers wrote 68 traffic and criminal citations Friday during a Booze-It-and-Lose-It checkpoint on U.S. 70 East, near its intersection with Oak Forest Road.
Maj. Mike Hopper said two of the charges were DWIs and that checkpoints will continue to pop up around the county until Labor Day.
Investigations
These reports are being investigated by Wayne County law enforcement:
*Family Dollar on Ash Street reported items stolen by a shoplifter Saturday. Employees said someone stole shirts, shorts, batteries and socks from the store.
*Juanita Darden of Rudolph Street, told police her $700 television was stolen Saturday. According to her statement, Ms. Darden said someone broke into her residence and left with her TV.
*Lacosta Jones of Pikeville told authorities she had gotten a ride from an unknown person to a store on William Street. When she got out of the car, the man stole more than $200 from her purse and then pulled a gun on her.
*Angelo Thompson told police Sunday that someone broke into his car outside his residence on Madison Avenue and stole more than $200 in goods. CD's, a pocket knife and a flashlight were among the items taken, he said.
*Chuck Huffman of Mimosa Park Drive told police that someone stole his $350 lawnmower Sunday.
*Marquis Miller, of Carver Drive, told police someone broke into his home Saturday and stole more than $700 in video games and equipment.
Gunshots reported
Goldsboro police responded to several complaints of damage caused to vehicles by bullet-holes this weekend.
On Saturday, Aaron Lewis, of Olivia Lane, told lawmen that someone fired a shot through the windshield of his parked Pontiac. Hours later, Mildred Jackson, of Slaughter Street told police her Dodge Ram had been damaged by a bullet.
Lavonda Woresly, of Sumpter Drive, told police Sunday that her Chevrolet Impala was damaged by a bullet also, leaving $1,500 in damage behind.
Early today, a Dudley resident said his Chevrolet Metro was damaged by a bullet. Willie McKinley, of Dudley, said his car was parked on Elm Street when someone fired at his parked vehicle.
