Ground broken for hospice center

KENANSVILLE -- Carolina East Home Care & Hospice Center held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday at Duplin Commons.
The indoor groundbreaking foreshadowed a new hospice center construction, which will begin some time in October near Kenansville.
Company officials said they expect the center to be ready to open the following October. It will be called the Milford and Reba Quinn Hospice Care Center and will provide clinical management and emotional support to the terminally ill patient and support to the family during the final phase of life.
Center officials said the facility will embrace the idea of a home-like setting in a relaxed environment to promote comfort for the patient, family and caregivers.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program provided a low-interest $1.1 million loan and a $100,000 grant for the project to build the new 7,000 square-foot facility, which will provide six beds. Three of the beds will be inpatient beds, and three will be residential beds.
"They made our dream a reality," said center director Lynn Hardy. "The people of our community believe in, support and have contributed to this project."
