Decision expected Friday for Goldsboro

The decision that could impact the future of Goldsboro High School and 16 other schools around the state is expected on Friday when Judge Howard Manning reviews the identified schools' progress during a hearing in Raleigh.
Wake Superior Court Judge Manning issued an ultimatum in March -- either schools exceed the 55 percent passing rate or he would order them closed if principals were not replaced and specific reform measures imposed. All of the schools targeted had been below 55 percent for the past four years.
Local school officials have been working diligently to comply with the judge's edict. Latest test scores eked slightly ahead of expectations, with early tabulations between 56 and 60 percent. But then earlier this month Judge Manning told a group of educators he remained adamant about the possibility of closure.
Friday morning's hearing comes one week before students are scheduled to return to classes.
