Break-in charged
Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Goldsboro Police Department responded to an alarm at Edwards Service Station on N. William Street. Upon arrival, a subject was observed inside the building, so officers set up a perimeter around the building while other officers conducted a search of the premises.
A rear door to the business was found open and a window had been broken out on the north side of the building. A check of the immediate area was made and a subject was located lying in a grassy area behind the business.
James Oscar Gardner was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering. He refused to allow his fingerprints to be taken, which also resulted in his being charged with resist, delay and obstruction.
Gardner was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*At Robert Sutton Motors on N. Berkeley Blvd., a 2000 black and gold Ford Expedition was reported stolen from the lot by Cathy Sutton. She estimated value of the four-door vehicle at $12,000.
*Ishmael Joel Ward of Fremont said his vehicle was damaged while in a parking lot on McDaniel Avenue. Damage to the front bumper, grill and headlights was estimated at $800.
*Tuesday afternoon, a vehicle parked in the Wendy's lot on N. Berkeley Blvd. reportedly received $500 damage to the passenger side, according to Eddie Tavares Brown .
*April Womble of Wayne Realty Co. told police about a break-in at a S. Alabama Avenue apartment. Entry was gained through a back door, with damages to the deadbolt lock and $1,300 worth of damages done to the interior walls. There was also reported evidence of drug use inside the vacant apartment.
*Gerald Darden of Goldsboro Tire Service on N. George Street reported $500 damage to a brick wall at the business. Nothing was stolen.
*Harold Coltrane of N. Berkeley Blvd. reported the theft of a $595 electric scooter with battery charger, $100 10-speed blue bike, a $100 rod and reel, and a $50 space heater, all taken from an unsecured storage shed at the residence.
*At Willie's Radiator on N. James Street, owner Willie Pearson said he arrived to find the lobby in disarray. A vending machine had been turned over and a window unit air conditioner was on the floor and damaged. Damages were estimated at $1,160 and approximately $10 in coins was taken.
Accidents
An estimated $42,000 in damages were reported to several area wrecks.
*Tuesday morning at 7:40, Felicia Danielle Lynch, 23, Barton Road, Kinston, was traveling west on U.S. 70 when the right tire of her vehicle blew out, causing her to lose control. The vehicle left the roadway, overturned and came to rest upside down in the median. No injuries were reported but her car sustained $4,000 in damages.
*Tuesday at 5:16 a.m., Lugawa Toshon Zelaya of Franklin Street, Mount Olive, lost control of her car at Case Farms, ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole. Her vehicle received $2,000 worth of damage.
*On Monday at 12:13 p.m. a two-vehicle accident occurred near Seven Springs on state road 1958. Erick A. Nunez, 22, of the Bronx, New York, was traveling south and Arturro Aguirre of Lakeland, Fla., was traveling north. Nunez was charged with a left of center violation; his vehicle received $10,000 in damage. Aguirre's vehicle had $5,000 worth of damage and the trailer lost several watermelons.
*Jeffrey Blaney Hill, Jr., 16, Verranda Place, was charged with exceeding safe speed after his vehicle ran off the road at state road 1293 near U.S. 13 on Monday at 12:11 a.m. Damage to his vehicle was reported at $6,500.
*On Sunday at 3:59 p.m. on N.C. 581, Harvey Prentice Brooks, 78, Trenton, reportedly struck a vehicle driven by Danny Franklin Grady of Stephens Street. Brooks' car received $3,000 in damages and Grady's vehicle, which ran off the road and overturned, struck a ditch and a highway sign, received $11,000 worth of damage. Brooks was charged with failure to yield.
