Three arrested for break-ins around area

Three Goldsboro men have been arrested in connection with a rash of break-ins in the Rosewood community, including vandalism to a church, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office announced today.
Murphy Frank Bode of Mary Lane, Brian Russell Sawkiw of Peggy Lane and Joseph Lawrence Quinn of Quaker Drive were charged.
Officials said the Sheriff's Office has received numerous reports of property damage in the Rosewood area in excess of $3,000 recently.
A lighted sign at the Pine Forest United Methodist Church as well as a number mailboxes were damaged. There were also several reports of break-ins to vehicles in the area, with the value of property stolen in excess of $3,500, detectives said.
A breaking and entering at the Rosewood Foodliner resulted in more than $2,500 worth of property stolen.
The investigation is continuing, lawmen said today, and additional arrests and grand jury indictments are pending.
Bode, 19, was charged with breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny, two counts each of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and felony larceny, and 12 counts of injury to property. He was being held under $45,000 secured bond.
Sawkiw, 23, was charged with two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and one count each of felony larceny and misdemeanor larceny. He was held under $8,000 secured bond.
Quinn, 23, had his bond set at $25,000. He was charged with breaking and entering, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and two counts of felony larceny.
Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour was credited by Sheriff Carey Winders with putting in a lot of hard work on the case.
"This should slow down the rash of crimes in the Rosewood community," Winders said this morning. "These three subjects are being looked at for other crimes that occurred in and around the same time period."
Juvenile petitions are also pending against a 14-year-old youth in connection with the break-ins and vandalisms, said Capt. George Raecher.
