Waynesborough Commission board to reorganize

Waynesborough's governing body is reorganizing to simplify operations at the historical village on U.S. 117 south of Goldsboro.
Work has been going on for a while to rewrite the bylaws, and the Old Waynesborough Commission met Tuesday to discuss realigning its committee structure.
Commission President Bill Kemp said by the time the transition ends, he hopes the commission will be able to hire a president. At that time, Kemp's job will change to that of chairman of the board.
"Board reorganization is the most controversial part of the new bylaws," he said, adding that the commission needs a seven-member group to raise money, set policy and hire a president right away and, within the next couple years, to hire an executive director.
He told the commission members they would receive a written copy of the reorganization plan when it is finished and then have an opportunity to vote on it.
Harry Wood agreed to be the events chairman. Other chairmen will be Kemp, long range planning; Shelton Smith, buildings and grounds; Pat Yates, history and education; Richard Slozak, finance; and Arnold Leder, fund raising and grants. The commission is still looking for somebody to be the welcome center committee chairman.
Wood said he has developed a tentative list of events for the next year.
Ms. Yates said she wants to develop relationships with the public and private schools and Wayne Community College. Smith said he hopes someone will donate a building he can use to store and catalog the seasonal exhibits used in the village buildings and in the visitor's center.
