New business coming to TransPark

KINSTON -- Spatial Integrated Systems, a Maryland-base company that specializes in information technology, engineering services and software for the aviation industry and the military, announced today that it will build a facility at the Global TransPark.
The company uses the latest technology to design and manufacture parts for aging aircraft.
The announcement was made at a ceremony at the TransPark's training center near the Kinston Regional Jetport.
Company officials said construction of a 20,000-square-foot building will begin soon. The new facility will employ 37 people, earning between $30,000 and $100,000 a year. Company president and CEO Dr. Ali Farfaie said he hopes to increase the number of employees within a few years.
The company will make an initial investment of $700,000 in equipment, he added. Incentives to convince the company to locate at the TransPark were provided by Lenoir County, the Neuse River Development Authority's Defense Ventures Fund, the Governor's Office and the Global TransPark Foundation, the private branch of the TransPark development group.
The announcement is the first new business deal for the TransPark this year. Last year, the TransPark announced several new ventures, including the return of passenger jet service to the airport.
The Kinston facility will become SIS's fourth major operation. The company, founded in 1997, already has operations in Virginia, West Virginia and Washington state.
The company will proceed with worker training and preparation at the TransPark's training center while its building is being constructed.
State Treasurer Richard Moore was present at the ceremony.
"I'm glad to be here today to announce a new tenant at the GTP. Nothing makes me happier than to be able to announce a new tenant, new jobs and new revenue for eastern North Carolina," Moore said.
