Fremont board members OK new sewer tap

FREMONT -- The Fremont Town Board of Aldermen quickly approved a sewer tap on a force main for a proposed subdivision of 11 or 12 luxury homes on Airport Road, and a subdivision of four large building lots off Davis Mill Road.
The two actions came during Tuesday night's monthly town board meeting in Town Hall.
Jeff Jennings, who represented the subdivision developer, Don Sasser, explained that the owners would be able to taxi their aircraft directly to their homes from the Goldsboro-Wayne Municipal Airport. The homes would be built on lots of at least an acre in the 14-acre gated community. Jennings said the community was a new concept and similar to one built in Elizabeth City.
The sewer tap would give the homes access to the new Fremont-to-Goldsboro sewer line. The board unanimously approved the request.
No one spoke during a public hearing on a request to convert an 18-acre tract between Davis Mill and Moye roads, northeast of town, into a four-lot subdivision. The Planning Board had recommended approval of the request.
The lots, between 3.59 and 4.31 acres in size, are served by county water and have been perked for septic tanks.
A corner of one lot is within the town limits, and the remaining land is within the town's zoning jurisdiction.
A spokesman for the landowner said the new owners would not be allowed to subdivide the lots further. The board unanimously approved the request.
Meanwhile, three residents spoke to the board about personal concerns. One man said it would be hard to give away pets in order to comply with the town's new two-animal limit. A second said a large hole on East North Street needed to be filled. A third thanked Police Chief Wayne Schwark for his job in his battle against drug dealers.
In other business, the board:
*Approved a list of 55 junked vehicles for removal.
*Tabled until August a minimum housing code enforcement agreement with Wayne County.
*Discussed but took no action on a request from Kenneth Stanley for a raise that he said a previous town administration had promised after he earned his wastewater plant operator II license.
*Met in closed session for about 50 minutes on a personnel matter.
