Teens facing
more charges
Two teenagers, already in custody on numerous other felony charges, were charged Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with the larceny of a T-Rex scooter from a Hereford Drive resident.
Eric Earl Outlaw, 19, of Oriole Drive, Dudley, and Shantrell Marqua Matthewson, 19, of Ward Street, Dudley, remained in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of additional $5,000 secured bonds. The scooter, valued at $2,900, was stolen July 7.
Accidents
*The cargo box of a northbound truck was sheared off Tuesday night when the driver tried to go under the low railroad bridge on North Carolina Street, Goldsboro police said. Paul Williams, 39, of North Jefferson Avenue was charged with an unsafe movement in the 8:50 p.m. crash. Damage was set at $25,000 to the truck, registered to Hahn's Automotive Warehouse of Goldsboro.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-vehicle, rear-end collision at 2 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Whitley Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. James David Diggs Jr., 42, of Fayetteville and Johnnie Howard Gurley, 58, of Old Smithfield Road were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital . Diggs was charged with failure to reduce speed.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 8:20 p.m. Saturday on Old Mill Road near Lindell Road, the Highway Patrol said. Brittany Nicole Cook, 16, of Wilson, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $5,000.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a one-truck wreck at 1:21 a.m. Saturday on Indian Springs Road near Kelly Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. Wayne Richard Kinzly Jr., 32, of Godwin, was charged with driving while impaired and speeding.
*A driver was injured and damages were set at $9,700 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:02 p.m. Friday at N.C. 111 and Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. Frederick Scott Ward, 16, of Southern Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with driving left of center.
*A driver was injured and damages were put at $8,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 11 a.m. Friday on U.S. 117 and an exit ramp from N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. Lucille D. Byrd, 83, of Steele Street, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Byrd was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-car crash at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Wayne Memorial Drive and Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Shannon Nichole Best, 17, and her passenger, Ariana Nicole Gray, 16, both of Gene Arthur Lane, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Sandra Elizabeth Gramby, 50, of North Marion Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Five people were injured and damages were set at $5,500 in a two-car collision at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Brewington Road and Ruskin Road, the Highway Patrol said. Fatima Nachole Adams, 21, of Stanley Chapel Church Road, Dudley, and her passengers, Jasmine Manley, 18, of Andrews Circle, Mount Olive, Jameaka McClarin, 16, of Pecan Road, Dudley, and Tatiyala Whitfield, 6 months, and LaChrystilyn Adams, 17, both of Stanley Chapel Church Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Fatima Adams was charged with a yield violation.
*Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-car crash at 3 p.m. July 10 at U.S. 70 and Lake Wackena Road, the Highway Patrol said. Margaret Anne Atkinson, 56, of Wayne Avenue, was listed Tuesday in good condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Doris Irene Perdue, 74, of Creekside Drive, and her passengers, Rosemary Troxler, 86, of Burlington and Jeta Pace, 89, of Greensboro, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Atkinson was charged with a yield violation.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Two handguns and about $200 were stolen between Monday and Tuesday from a home in the 100 block of B.J. Drive, deputies said. The thief had smashed a window and damaged a door to get the property, the report said. The resident, Gregory Lynn Washington, estimated the value of the handguns at $1,250 and damages at $200.
*A black and silver 2006 Honda four-wheeler was stolen between Tuesday and dawn today from a porch in the 4400 block of U.S. 13 South, deputies said. The four-wheeler, which had been chained and locked and was owned by Richard Earl Davis, was valued at $8,000.
*A purse with personal papers, a wallet and perfume were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a car window was smashed in the 400 block of Johnson Branch Road, deputies said. The resident and owner, Katrina Crowson, estimated the stolen property's value at $220 and damage at $100.
*About $2,500 worth of copper piping was stolen between June and Tuesday from a home under construction in the 100 block of Beckett Drive, deputies said. The pipe was owned by Westbrook Builders of Goldsboro.
*A MTD lawn mower was stolen between Monday and Tuesday from a home in the 200 block of Dobbersville Road, deputies said. The resident, P.A. Wheeler, said the mower was worth $1,000.
Juveniles charged
Two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, were arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged in juvenile petitions with two break-ins from the same home on Whitehall Lane near Seven Springs. The resident had reported the theft of about $750 in property on June 15 and 16 after about $600 in damages was inflicted.
