Duplin's ex-EMS chief to answer charges

Two people have been charged in connection with an investigation of the Duplin County Emergency Medical Services by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Former Duplin EMS Director Curtis Brock and EMS employee Barbara Coman were both charged Monday with two misdemeanors, accessing computers and computer trespassing, according to the office of District Attorney Dewey Hudson.
Hudson was expected to discuss the investigation at a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. today.
A court date has been set for Aug. 16.
Brock resigned in May following a period of administrative leave. Investigators have indicated that the probe involves an attempt by Brock to get information on emergency service contracts involving the county.
In March, Brock and former Duplin County Manager Fred Eldridge recommended that the county Board of Commissioners approve changes in emergency services. They urged commissioners to institute non-emergency and inter-facility transport services to help increase revenue.
