A Dudley woman was killed early Saturday in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sleepy Creek and Emmaus Church roads.
Marisela Roblero-Ortiz died when she was thrown from a minivan involved in the crash. She was one of seven people in the van driven by Jose Luis Elvano of 191 Holloman St. in Dudley.
The van collided with a sport utility vehicle driven by Tonya Michelle McCloud of Timothy Street in Dudley.
Trooper J.M. Holloman of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said the van failed to yield at the intersection. No charges had been filed Saturday afternoon, but Holloman said charges were pending.
Holloman said Ms. Roblero-Ortiz was about 22 years old. He said Elvano was about 20.
All of the people involved in the accident were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. Ms. McCloud, 35, was being X-rayed for a possible broken leg, Holloman said.
No other information on injuries was available at press time.
Holloman said the minivan was traveling east on Sleepy Creek Road and the SUV was traveling south on Emmaus Church Road when the accident occurred. The SUV struck the minivan in the side, he said. Ms. Roblero-Ortiz was a passenger sitting on the right side of the second seat in the minivan, he said.
Dudley Fire Department volunteers, along with Wayne County Emergency Services and workers with the state Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
