Charges filed in beauty shop robbery

A Dudley man accused of taking part in last weekend's armed robbery of a supermarket in Mar Mac now has been implicated in the armed holdup of a beauty shop.
Nevon Rashon Carter, 19, of Genoa Road, has been charged with the armed robbery of three women June 1 at Sylvia's Beauty Shop on Woodland Church Road.
Carter remained in the Wayne County Jail with his secured bond doubled to $400,000.
A second teenager also was charged in the beauty shop robbery. Lewis Jamal Bell, 16, of Dollard Town Road had been charged with the June 23 armed robbery of the Big Lots store in Goldsboro and the larceny of two firearms from Guns of the South on St. John Church Road.
Bell's new secured bond was set at $251,000.
A total of $3,939 in property was stolen from the three women, reports said. Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour, who is being assisted by Deputy Larry Mitchell, said all but $320 in cash has been recovered.
Sheriff Carey Winders said more arrests are possible and the case remains under investigation.
The sheriff said the quick arrest of Carter and two other men after the Food Lion supermarket robbery Sunday night was attributed to good witness information, a quick response by patrol deputies and the use of a search dog.
Store employees and other witnesses provided significant information, including a description of the getaway car. Patrol deputies on Sgt. Steve Mozingo's B-shift found the car near the Myrtle Place apartment complex off U.S. 117 South.
Sheriff's Cpl. Joe Smith brought his dog and picked up a track that led deputies to an apartment in the complex.
After a further investigation, Carter and two other men were arrested and charged with armed robbery.
The other two, Eric Earl Outlaw, 20, of Oriole Drive, Dudley, and Shantrell M. Matthewson, 19, of Ward Street, Dudley, were jailed in lieu of $150,000 secured bonds.
A weapon used in the holdup and a large amount of cash also were recovered, Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler said. Detective Robert Golimowski is assisting in the investigation.
Carter also was charged with an armed robbery in Mount Olive. Police Lt. Tommy Brown said Carter confessed to the predawn June 23 robbery of employees who were leaving the McDonald's fast-food restaurant.
The employees said a man approached them, demanded money, grabbed some and fled. The money was not recovered, Brown said.
"Robberies are getting popular with the younger crowd," Brown said. "It must be a status symbol. We've been fortunate in solving ours, the bank robberies and this one."
Winders said the investigation is continuing to determine if the men were involved in other recent robberies.
