The Hispanic Community Development Center is collecting school supplies for a back-to-school party that will be held Aug. 19 at the center at 309 Potts Road in Dudley.
Organizers are looking for sponsors to provide things such as sport equipment for outdoor games and food donations like hot-dogs, buns, condiments, chips and popsicles. Proceeds go to a scholarship fund to help a Hispanic student enter the medical field.
She said organizers hope to be able to give participating children a free backpack for school. A company already has donated 50 packpacks, she said. Donations of other school supplies such as paper, composition books, rulers, pencils and pens are also being sought. For information call 738-0604.
