City water restrictions now lifted

Last month's heavy rains, long storms and flash flooding lifted Goldsboro out of drought conditions and, consequently, out of conservation measures, too
Upon recommendation from Public Utilities director Karen Brashear, council members lifted voluntary conservation of water measures that had been in place since April 3.
Mrs. Brashear said the city has the ability to return to normal after heavy rains in June left an abundance of water in the Neuse River available for water treatment. From June 1 through June 28, nine inches of rain fell in Goldsboro, she added.
Upstream in Raleigh, even more rain fell in June, Mrs. Brashear said. Much of the heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Alberto caused the Neuse to rise to nearly 20 feet a few weeks ago.
Mrs. Brashear added that despite the return to normal conditions, residents should avoid wasting water. Preparing for the future is always important, she said.
"We should never waste water," Mrs. Brashear said. "It is one of our most valuable resources."
