Suspects charged in robbery of grocery

Three men who allegedly held up a supermarket Sunday night in Mar Mac were arrested quickly by Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with armed robbery.
Nevon Rashon Carter, 19, of Genoa Road, Dudley, Shantrell Marqua Matthewson, 19, of Ward Street, Dudley, and Eric Earl Outlaw, 20, of Oriole Drive, Dudley, were charged today for the 11 p.m. robbery.
Carter, who also was charged with an armed robbery in Mount Olive, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 secured bond.
Matthewson and Outlaw were jailed in lieu of $150,000 secured bonds.
When Sheriff's Deputy Patrick Hux responded to an armed robbery call at the Food Lion at 118 Five Points Road, he said he saw two armed black men running south. One had a handgun and the other had a knife.
A store employee told deputies that as he was putting money in a safe, a black man with a handgun and a hat pulled over his face grabbed the cash.
At the same time, the other robber was telling the first suspect to hurry up, the report said.
A second store employee reported that the second suspect had grabbed him and held a knife to his neck.
An employee at a nearby pizza restaurant told deputies that he had seen two black men hanging out next to an small white pickup truck at the south end of the strip mall.
The money stolen consisted of about $370 in small bills from the cash drawers and about $200 already in the safe.
After Hux detained the suspects, he called for other officers, including Detective Robert Golimowski, who took over the investigation.
The three detainees were scheduled to have a first appearance today in Wayne County District Court to determine their legal representation.
