House fire
A Tuesday morning fire severely damaged a home on Elton Drive.
The home of Etta Geraldine McIntyre was struck by lighting during a heavy thunderstorm.
She and the other members of her family got out of the house when they realized it was on fire.
Goldsboro firefighters responded to the emergency call about 2:45 a.m.
Firefighters were able to confine the damage to several rooms, according to a fire department report, but damage was estimated at $50,000 to the structure, which was valued at $100,000. The contents of the home, valued at $30,000, were destroyed.
Officials with the Red Cross responded to the scene and were helping the family, according to the department's report.
Investigations
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating these reports:
*Shannon Louise Fulghum of Pikeville-Princeton Road said someone stole her 2000 Ford Explorer, valued at $5,500, from in the 200 block of Fussell Street.
*Damage to a Wayne County public school building on Royall Avenue was estimated at $350 after someone threw a rock into a door at the office.
*Patricia Neisha Mickens of Pennsylvania said someone entered her hotel room while she was out and took her make-up bag and cosmetics valued at $550. There was no sign of forced entry to the room at 701 U.S. 70 East.
*Melisses Artis said someone caused $800 worth of damage trying to break into her car while it was parked on Koonce Street.
*Thieves ripped out $500 worth of copper pipe from the underside of a house on East Chestnut Street. Sidney Barfield, who is renovating the house, said the theft occurred some time after the morning of June 28.
*Gerthel Hall said was assaulted Tuesday afternoon while she was sitton in her front yard on North Slocumb Street when someone threw a brick at her, striking her in the arm.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating these reports:
*Someone broke into a newly constructed house on Autumn Ridge Drive and damaged a line to a hot water heater, the dishwasher, countertop and carport ceiling. They stole the stove. Damage and property value totaled $1,300. The report filed by Cooke Construction Co., said the theft was discovered Monday afternoon.
*Ramon Francisco Avila of Greenfield Cemetery Road said someone stole his 1994 Chevrolet Camero while it was parked at his home some time after 8 p.m. on Monday. The car was valued at $1,000.
*Veronica Escalera Rodriguez of C.B. Keen Road, Mount Olive, reported her 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck stolen from her home. It was valued at $2,500.
*Thieves did $200 worth of damage trying to pry open the door to Lisa Smith McKeller's home on Southern Plaza, Dudley. The report said her 15-year-old son saw a man in the front yard around 10 p.m. Monday. He said someone picked up the man in an unknown vehicle at the stop sign at Southern Plaza Drive and Old Mount Olive Highway. Nothing was reported missing. The man was described as white, six feet tall, weighing 120 pounds, slender and with blond medium length straight hair.
*A pinball machine valued at $2,800 was stolen from John Kelley's home on Quail Drive.
*James Turnage of Nandina Place, Dudley, said someone stole a $3,000 scooter from his home.
*Crystal Benton Mercum of Jordan's Bluff Drive, Pikeville, said someone stole jewelry valued at $800 from a vehicle parked at her home.
*Miles Thomason said someone broke into his vehicle while it was parked at his home on Pinkney Road and stole his stereo system and cash. Total value of the missing items was set at $3,155.
*Thieves did $650 worth of damage to the doors trying to get inside Radford Auto Auctionat 1820 N.C. 581. Nothing was reported missing.
*Thieves broke into Tracy Lee Jarman's 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe while it was parked at her home and stole a $150 speaker and a $40 bottle of cologne.
