Pikeville Fourth of July celebration Saturday

Pikeville will continue a summer tradition Saturday with the town's ninth annual Independence Day Festival at Pikeville Park.
Sponsored by the Pikeville Lions Club, the event includes a 5K run, inflatables for children and performances by the Country Roads Band and C.B. Aycock Jazz Ensemble. Other events include Pikeville Idol, an American Idol-style competition for youth, and a horseshoe contest. The Shriners Mini-Rigs will make an appearance as well. The day will be capped off by a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
Schedule of Events
8 a.m. -- 5K run (registration begins one hour prior to the start of the race)
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. -- Car Show, Lawn Mower pull, Horseshoe Competition, Hayride, Ident-A-Kid, Shriners Mini-Rigs
10 a.m. -- Opening ceremony, crowning of Miss and Mr. Independence, Awards for Pikeville Distinguished Citizens
11 a.m. until -- Children's games
11 a.m. -- Charles B. Aycock High Jazz Ensemble
3 p.m. -- Young Pikeville Idol (ages 5-12)
4 p.m. -- Country Roads band
5:30 p.m. -- Teen Pikeville Idol (13-18)
6:30 p.m. -- Country Roads band
9:30 p.m. -- fireworks
