Mount Olive planning big Fourth of July

Wayne and Duplin county residents, along with those in neighboring communities, are invited to join residents of the town of Mount Olive at the town's annual Fourth of July celebration at Westbrook Park off North Breazeale Avenue.
The festivities will be sponsored by the Mount Olive Exchange Club, with help from other organizations and businesses in town.
Highlights of the day's events will include a children's parade, musical entertainment, children's games and lots of food.
Children are asked to decorate their bicycles, wagons or other non-motorized vehicles with a patriotic theme for the parade, which will be held on the walking trail in the park, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Ribbons will be awarded to the parade participants.
The evening program will begin at 5 p.m. with the singing of the National Anthem by Hampton Lee, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by Mayor Ruff Huggins.
Entertainment will include Lee, the Batten Family Singers, Melody Brown and the Harmony Boys.
There will be bingo and prizes for the youngest and oldest attendees, as well as for the person who traveled the farthest to get to the celebration.
There will be no fireworks display. Adults are urged to bring lawn chairs.
