7 county schools will get new leaders this fall

Seven public schools in Wayne County will have new principals next year as the result of the school system's annual reorganization, officials announced.
One principal will also move to the district's central office.
Superintendent Dr. Steven Taylor also announced the assignment of several assistant principals.
Principal appointments will be effective July 1 and assistant principals will be in position Aug. 18.
Marvin McCoy, principal at Dillard Middle School for the past two years, has been named assistant superintendent for human resources for Wayne County Public Schools. He replaces Ed Cromartie, who retired in May.
With the reconfiguration of the central attendance area, one principal will relocate while two take the reigns for the first time, and four others will transfer to new schools.
Sylvester Townsend, who came to the school system last year as principal at Goldsboro Middle School, will be at Dillard Middle School, which will house seventh- and eighth-grade students.
Goldsboro Middle School now becomes Goldsboro Elementary, where all fifth- and sixth- graders in the central attendance area will go. Cortrina Powell, formerly assistant principal at North Drive Elementary School, will take over as principal.
Reassigned to other schools will be Tim Harrell, principal at Grantham School the past year, to Southern Wayne High School; Lisa Tart, from Rosewood Middle to Grantham; Frances Southerland, from Carver Elementary to Rosewood Middle School; Deborah Ogburn, from Fremont STARS Elementary to Carver Elementary; and Beverly Lynn Smith, from assistant principal at Carver Elementary to principal at Fremont STARS.
Townsend has varied instructional and administrative experiences at the middle school, high school and college levels. He has a master's degree in school administration from Gardner-Webb University and previously worked in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system.
Ms. Powell has been at North Drive since July 2003. She began her career in the Wayne County Public Schools as curriculum facilitator at Eastern Wayne Elementary School in 2002. She has a bachelor's degree in communication from Georgia Southern University and a master's degree in school administration from George College and State University.
Replacing Richard Sauls, retiring after two years at Southern Wayne and a lengthy career in education, Harrell is a graduate of Southern Wayne. He previously taught physical education, health, earth science and agriculture at the school and was assistant principal both there and at Carver Elementary. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from North Carolina State University.
Mrs. Tart has been principal at Rosewood Middle for four years. Prior to that, she taught communication skills and history for eight years at the school and was its assistant principal for two years. A graduate of East Carolina University, she has master's degrees in administration and middle grades education.
Ms. Southerland has been principal at Carver since 2002. She was principal at Fremont STARS from 2000 to 2002, assistant principal at Spring Creek Elementary and a classroom teacher in Wayne and Johnston counties. She holds a master's degree in school administration from East Carolina University.
Mrs. Ogburn, principal at Fremont since April 2004, was assistant principal at Greenwood Middle School from 2001 to 2004 and taught at Rosewood Elementary School from 1985 until 2001. She earned a bachelor's degree from Kentucky Christian College and master's degrees in arts in education and school administration from East Carolina University.
Mrs. Smith holds bachelor's and master's degrees from North Carolina Central University. From 1999 to 2003, she taught at Northeast Elementary School. She has also been curriculum facilitator at Eastern Wayne Elementary School, assistant principal at Greenwood Middle School, and has been assistant principal at Carver Elementary since July 2004.
McCoy was previously assistant principal at Goldsboro High School for two years. From 1999 to 2001, he taught math at Brogden Middle School and was JROTC instructor in the Duplin County Schools for three years before that.
He holds a master's degree in school administration from Fayetteville State University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Methodist College and became an educator after retiring from a career in the U.S. Army.
Two assistant principals will have new school assignments in the fall. Tammy Keel, currently at Grantham School, will move to Brogden Middle School. Anne Kosuda will transfer from Norwayne Middle School to Rosewood Elementary School.
New assistant principals named include Lois Marshall, a classroom teacher at Eastern Wayne Middle School, to serve as administrator at Carver Heights Elementary School; Keith Faison, returning to the school system as administrator at Carver Elementary School; Ryan Nelson, from teaching at Brogden Middle School to serve at North Drive Elementary School; Ronald Barnes, teacher at Goldsboro Middle School to serve at Spring Creek High School; and Yolanda Wynn, principal intern at Grantham this past year, will return as assistant principal.
