Water still on rise in county

The Neuse River continued to rise today, with the river level at 19.23 feet at 6:15 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Officials have said they expect the river to crest at Goldsboro at about 20 feet Wednesday morning.
County emergency service officials have said they do not expect the water to endanger any property but the memory of the turn-of-the-century flood that covered hundreds of acres of low-lying land in the county have residents near the waterway keeping a close eye on its churning, fast-moving brown surface.
Portions of Ferry Bridge and Mill Creek roads remained under water today. They went under water on Sunday, as the runoff from last week's tropical storm made its way downstream.
A river level of 20 feet is considered moderate flood stage. Weather Service records show that at 20 feet, portions of Arrington Bridge Road and roads near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will go under water.
At 21 feet, sections of Stevens Mill Road would flood, along with Riverview Trailer Park.
The Neuse's historical high level came in September 1999 in the wake of Hurricane Floyd, when it crested at 28.85 feet.
