Volunteers sought for state mental health panel

RALEIGH - Community members with connections to mental health services are being sought to join a state panel working to improve policies and services.
The State Consumer Family Advisory Committee for Mental Health, Developmental Disability and Substance Abuse issues is seeking new members from across North Carolina.
Chris Phillips, chief of the Advocacy and Customer Service Section, calls the committee the "peoples' pipeline for direct input into the present and future path of mental health service delivery in North Carolina."
With 21 members making up the committee, there are currently six slots that need to be filled, four of them at-large positions, Phillips said. Two must be filled by a member of local advisory committee.
The criteria for the six openings are to be a family member with a youth who has a mental health disorder; family member of an adult with a mental health disorder; consumer with co-occurring disorders; at-large position to serve any disability category; family member of an adult with a substance abuse disorder; and a family member of a youth who has received substance abuse services.
