Murder suspect
in custody
Sampson County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested a man Thursday and charged him with murder in the shooting death of another man on Wednesday afternoon on Scotty Lane near Garland.
Samuel Gutierrez Castro, also known as Ramon Carero or Ramon Echeveria Cordova, was taken into custody on Clear Run School Road in the Harrells community. He was taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center and treated for a stab wound before he was placed in the Sampson County Jail without bond.
Detectives responded to an emergency call Wednesday and found Felix Lopez, 29, dead at the scene on Scotty Lane. The official cause of death is still pending an autopsy results from the state medical examiner.
Drug charges
The Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad charged George Cobb Jr. of East Elm Street with possession with the intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine, maintaining a motor vehicle for the purpose of selling drugs, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to sign a registration card. Cobb was pulled over during a routine traffic stop and investigators found 11.4 grams of crack cocaine in the vehicle that has an estimated street value of $2,200. Cobb was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
Cigarettes stolen
The manager of the Hasty Mart No. 28 on the 100 block of Millers Chapel Road called the Goldsboro Police Department to report that 30 cartons of Marlboro Lights had been stolen. The theft occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday. One of the police officers on the scene reviewed the security videotape and, according to his report, said four black men entered the store. Once the men entered the store, the employee behind the counter walked around to talk to the men. While the employee was talking to the men, one of the men, described as wearing a white shirt, black pants and white hat, reached around the counter and grabbed a case of cigarettes valued at about $840.
Computer stolen
Angela Golosby, 22, told Goldsboro Police officers that she parked her car at a parking lot on the 100 block of Lionel St. at about 6 p.m. Thursday and went shopping. When she returned, she said she noticed that some of her belongings were gone, including a laptop computer valued at $1,150 and $225 in cash.
Accident
William Emil Fischer, 71, was released from Wayne Memorial Hospital on Thursday after he was involved in an accident Sunday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 117 and state road 1316. According to the state Highway Patrol, Fischer was riding a moped when he lost control and it collided with an Oldsmobile driven by Donald Ham, 64. Fischer was treated for his injuries at the hospital.
