Police track robbery suspect

Goldsboro police have identified a suspect in Monday's robbery of the BB&T branch at 435 N. Berkeley Blvd. as a 25-year-old man from Raleigh.
Edwin Emory Scott is being sought on a charge of felony common-law robbery, a holdup without the use of a weapon. The bank was robbed Monday afternoon by a lone man of an undisclosed amount of money. The robber fled in a newer-model, burnt-orange or burgundy Audi car.
Goldsboro and Raleigh police and a Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent have searched Raleigh for Scott.
Police Sgt. David Kelly said authorities have contacted Scott's mother and believe he might have fled the area.
Scott was supposed to have been in prison until 2007 in North Carolina after being convicted of receiving stolen property but was released erroneously by Pennsylvania authorities.
Kelly was sentenced to probation after being convicted in 2005 of breaking and entering and larceny in Wake County. He was arrested later in Harnett County and charged with receiving a stolen car. The second arrest resulted in a probation violation, and all three offenses were consolidated into a 26-month active sentence.
In the meantime, Kelly said, when Scott's name was entered in a nationwide computer bank, Philadelphia authorities discovered that he was wanted there. He was taken to Pennsylvania. After the charge was resolved, Pennsylvania authorities released him erroneously from custody.
Goldsboro police said a Raleigh resident called Golds-boro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers with information that led to the identification.
Kelly said the car that was used in the holdup was not registered to Scott or a relative.
