Legislators want to hear from citizens

Wayne County residents will have a chance to express their concerns to state legislators during a legislative briefing Monday, June 12, at the Goldsboro Country Club.
Sen. John Kerr, D-Wayne, Rep. Larry Bell, D-Sampson, Rep. Louis Pate, R-Wayne, and Rep. Stephen LaRoque, R-Lenoir, will be on hand to talk about issues that affect the area.
The event is being sponsored by the county Chamber of Commerce. The General Assembly reconvened in May for a short session to complete the state's budget.
Some of the issues that have been debated during the session include an increase in the state's minimum wage, legislative reform, video poker and lottery proceeds.
During the registration process, residents can suggest topics they would like to hear the legislators discuss. People will also get the opportunity to ask questions once each legislator has completed his briefing.
Registration is $15 per person, which includes a traditional Southern breakfast buffet. People can register by calling the Wayne Chamber of Commerce at 734-2241, mail a registration form to P.O. Box 1107, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533, or register online at www.waynecountychamber.com. Chamber representatives ask that any checks be made payable to the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. The registration deadline is Tuesday.
