2 hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $28,300 in five weekend traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A new car sustained about $10,000 in damages in a hit-and-run collision at 3:15 a.m. Sunday at Wayne Memorial Drive and Ninth Street, police said. The driver, Johnathon Dale Benton, 24, of Cuyler Best Road told police that he was stopped in the southbound lane, waiting to make a left turn and another car made a wide right turn from Ninth Street, struck his car and fled.
*An eastbound driver was injured in a two-car crash at 11:12 a.m. Saturday at East Ash and North Jackson streets, police said. Laheshia Shearn Hardy, 21, of LaGrange Road, LaGrange, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the report said, but her condition was not immediately available. A northbound motorist, Jean M. Hoke, 73, of South Berkeley Boulevard, was charged with a yield violation. Damages were set at $3,000.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 6:34 p.m. Saturday on Central Heights Road near Hines Drive, police said. Apryl Nicole Smith, 17, of Brantwood Drive was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the report said, but her condition was not immediately available. She was charged with failure to reduce speed after the car had run off the right side and struck a driveway culvert and a statue. Damages were put at $2,100.
*Damages were estimated at $7,200 in a two-vehicle, rear-end collision at 11:42 a.m. Friday on Central Heights Road near Hines Drive, police said. One southbound driver, Willie Russell Banks, 34, of Wharton Lane, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other motorist, Joanne Sue Artzer, 35, of Maplewood Drive, was making a left turn.
*Damages were put at $5,000 after two cars sideswiped each other at 3:45 p.m. Friday on East Holly Street near North Daisy Street, police said. An eastbound driver, Debbie B. Coley, 46, of Swingletree Circle, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other motorist was Eleanor Roxanne Lassiter, 27, of Johnson Lane.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $2,800 worth of damages was inflicted by gunshots on a home for sale in the 100 block of Melodie Lane, deputies said. An exterior wall, dry wall, vinyl siding, the roof, six interior doors, seven cabinets, a ceiling fan and two windows were damaged. The top to a septic tank, valued at $200, was stolen. The home was listed by Realty World Carolina Living of Goldsboro.
*A riding lawn mower, a push mower, tools, golf clubs in a bag, a weed trimmer and a saw were stolen Saturday after a door and a mirror were damaged at a home in the 300 block of Norlee Drive, deputies said. The resident, C.W. Johnson, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,300 and damages at $100.
*A car radio and cologne were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a window was smashed, the trunk was damaged and the sides were scratched at a convenience store parking lot at U.S. 70 East and Beston Road, deputies said. The owner, Stacy Lee Andrews Jr. of LaGrange, estimated the stolen property's value at $300 and damages at $1,000.
*A radio and an amplifier were stolen between Thursday and Saturday from an unlocked car in the 100 block of Gray Street, deputies said. The owner and resident, William Allen Grimes, put a $1,400 value on the stolen property.
*About $150 in coins were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a window was smashed in a home in the 1600 block of N.C. 55 East, Mount Olive, deputies said. The resident, N.K. Senta-Foy set damage at $350. A revolver, valued at $250, also was stolen but was recovered.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A television and video cassette recorder were stolen between Friday and Saturday after five windows were smashed at a home in the 400 block of North Virginia Street, police said. The resident, Dexter Bunn, estimated the value of the stolen property at $155 and damages at $400.
*About 50 compact discs and a case were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a car window and a radio were damaged in a parking lot at 802 Corporate Drive, police said. The owner, Carolyn E. Lane of Wilson, estimated the stolen property's value at $520 and damages at $350.
*An unlocked 1995 Chevrolet Blazer pickup truck that had a purse with $425, a cell phone and personal papers was stolen Saturday from outside of Studio 17 at 920 McDaniel Ave., police said. The owner, Sonya J. Young of Goldsboro, said the truck was worth $4,000 and the other property was valued at $171.
*A blue and white 1998 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen between Friday and Saturday from the 300 block of Olive Street, police said. The resident and owner, Martell Wynn Jr., put a $6,500 value on the bike.
Missing
A 17-year-old boy was reported missing Saturday to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Elin Dwayne Wilson of 401 Earl Drive was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 170 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. When he was seen last at 9 p.m. Friday, he was wearing blue pants, a red shirt and tennis shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
