Teen accidentally
shoots self, dies
A 19-year-old man died following an accidental shooting Wednesday night, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported today.
The victim was identified as Yohance Renjuan Jordan of 465 Old Grantham Road.
"We're looking at it as an accidental shooting," Sheriff's Maj. Ray Smith said today. "That's what it appears to be. There is nothing that shows criminal intent. It's just a bad thing."
Jordan was visiting Danny Jevon Langston in his home at 103 Heather Glen Drive, the report said. Langston told deputies that Jordan was playing with a pistol at about 6:56 p.m., when the gun fired and Jordan fell to the ground. Langston ran inside and called 911, the report said.
Wayne County rescue personnel were summoned and pronounced Jordan dead at the scene. Mar Mac volunteer first-responders also were dispatched.
Patrol deputies secured the scene and turned over an investigation to Detective Sgts. Tammy Odom and Ray Brogden.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Burglary charged
A 26-year-old man was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with first-degree burglary and larceny in connection with a residential break-in.
David Wakumba Simon, who did not disclose a home address, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond on the felony charges.
Simon was accused by Investigator Dwayne Bevell of breaking into an apartment in the 300 block of North Hillcrest Drive and stealing a computer, a monitor, two cell phones and a television.
The resident, Elizabeth H. Fosgate, reported that the theft occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The thief had entered the apartment through an unlocked sliding door, the report said. The stolen property was valued at $1,490.
After a day-long investigation, Simon was developed as a suspect, and he was arrested today on East Ash Street.
Four hurt
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Both westbound drivers were injured in a two-car, rear-end collision at 7:54 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Road and Hines Drive, Goldsboro police said. Brandy Shonice Thomas, 27, of Longleaf Avenue and Cederick Lamont Smith, 25, of Tommy's Road were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Thomas was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $3,000.
*Two people were injured in a one-truck wreck at 7:45 a.m. Monday on Community Drive near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Cameron James Lowe, 16, of Friendly Drive, and his passenger, Brandon Daryl Bryant, 15, of Earl Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Lowe was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the pickup truck had run off the right side in a left curve, struck a ditch and a mailbox and overturned. The truck, valued at $6,000, was demolished.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*An amplifier, three speakers, a motorcycle helmet and compact disc player were stolen between May 6 and Wednesday from a car at a repair shop at 1393 N. Breazeale Ave., Mount Olive, deputies said. The thief had climbed a fence and smashed a car window to get the items, the report said. The property, owned by Travis Barksdale of Mount Olive, was valued at $1,530. Damage was set at $370.
*A video-game system and $300 were stolen between May 4 and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Gold Park Drive, deputies said. The resident, Jesus Lopez Lopez, put a $150 value on the video-game system and estimated damage at $100.
*A gold necklace, a 32-inch television, a digital camera, 10 DVD movies and a bicycle were stolen Wednesday after a window was damaged at a home in the 900 block of Emmaus Church Road, deputies said. The resident, Anthony Ray Mullis, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,420 and damage at $20.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment, 10 DVDs in a case and cosmetics were stolen Wednesday after a lock was damaged at a home in the 1800 block of Saxon Street, police said. The resident, Carmen Rebollar, estimated the stolen property's value at $650 and damage at $15.
*About $200 was stolen between Wednesday and dawn today from Precision Tune Auto Center at 602 N. Spence Ave., police said. The thief had smashed a window to get inside. Damage was put at $200.
*A miter saw, a laser level, a router, a nail gun and a tool set, including a drill, two saws and a flashlight, were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a covered truck bed in a parking lot in the 3600 block of East Ash Street, police said. The owner, Gary Gordon Wagner Jr. of Goldsboro, put a $2,200 value on the property.
*Vandals on sprayed paint on walls and a dumpster at Madison's Prime Rib and Steak restaurant and on an aluminum building at the Jennings Transmission shop in the 400 block of East New Hope Road, police said. Damage was estimated at $2,200 at Madison's and $300 at Jennings.
