Man is charged

in two break-ins

An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with seven felony offenses in connection with two residential break-ins on Wednesday.

Demarcus Montreal Seaberry of Dawson Drive was charged with two counts of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods and one count of possession of burglary tools. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.

Seaberry was accused of breaking into a home in Belfast and stealing about $2,500 worth of property and a home in Woodside Mobile Home Park off Tommy's Road and stealing about $650 worth of property, Detective Sgt. Carl Lancaster said.

The car used in the break-ins was found abandoned at Carolina Pines Trailer Park on North William Street with the stolen property inside, Lancaster said. Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden assisted in the case.

Money stolen

A man snatched $296 Thursday night from the pocket of a wheelchair-bound man in the 900 block of North Herman Street, Goldsboro police said.

Joseph F. Vernatt, 28, of Goldsboro told police that the suspect tried to take other items at about 10:05 p.m. in the parking lot of the Lighthouse convenience store, but could not and fled on foot. The suspect was described as black, in his 20s, 6-feet tall and 135 pounds with a slim build and black hair in braids.

Police also are investigating these other reports:

*A black 1971 Chevrolet C-10 pickup truck was stolen Thursday from the owner's work place at 810 N. James St. Owner James Earnest Williams Jr. of Goldsboro put a $4,000 value on the truck.

*A blue 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle was stolen Thursday from an apartment parking lot at 700 N. Spence Ave. The owner and resident, Justin Varrato, said the bike was worth $6,000.

Drivers charged

Both drivers were charged and damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-car collision at 12:50 p.m. Thursday at South John Street and Wayne Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Willie Keith Teachey, 46, of Rawlings Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Dondi Shanelle Applewhite, 20, of Vanderbilt Circle, was charged with a child-restraint violation.
