Man wounded
A 20-year-old man accidentally shot himself Wednesday night outside of his home in the 100 block of Lockside Drive near Dudley, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Renaldo Markel Frazier was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was stabilized, and then airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He was listed today in fair condition, a spokeswoman said.
The incident started at about 8 p.m. when sheriff's deputies and Goldsboro police converged on a car on South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass, near the National Guard Armory to investigate a shooting.
At first, Frazier and two witnesses, Blake Taylor, whose address also was listed at the Lockside Drive home, and Delano Hill of Dudley, gave authorities conflicting stories about how the shooting happened.
Frazier told deputies that he did not know who had shot him. Taylor and Hill, who were in the car, said they were walking in Rollingwood Estates near Dudley and heard gunshots, found Frazier and were driving him to the hospital.
When Frazier got to the hospital, he told Deputy Patrick Hux that he was playing basketball with Taylor and Hill. Later Taylor told Detective Sgt. Tom Flores and Hux that Frazier had shot himself.
Flores said that based on the wound, it appeared that Frazier had been shot sitting down, not standing up. Taylor and Hill then admitted that Frazier was sitting in the car when the gun went off accidentally.
Break-in charges
Goldsboro police arrested a 38-year-old man Wednesday and charged him with breaking into a vehicle in the 200 block of South Kornegay Street.
James Melvin Pride of Cleveland Drive, Mount Olive, was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and larceny of a firearm. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
The vehicle owner and resident, Willie Moore, told officers that someone had smashed the door glass in his van at about 7:30 a.m. and stole his 12-gauge automatic shotgun, tackle box and paint kit. A witness said she had seen a man walking down the street with the property.
The first officer to arrive, L.D. Bethea, found Pride and recovered Moore's property, valued at $285. Damage was set at $100 to the van. Investigator Dwayne Bevell and other B-shift officers assisted in the case.
Abuse charge
A 22-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.
The child's mother, Aleesha Donique Gilmore of Rhonda Place, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said she received a report Feb. 2 of a 2-year-old child being injured. When she investigated, she found the child had multiple broken ribs and two broken arms. The child was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital and received further tests at the UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill.
Drug charges
Two Goldsboro men were arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug offense in the 700 block of West Elm Street.
Larinsky Demond Sutton, 24, of Peachtree Drive and Matthew J. Spruill, 20, of Dollard Town Road were charged with possession of cocaine. Sutton, who also was held on an outstanding arrest order for failure to appear in court, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond. Spruill was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A digital camera, a diamond ring, other jewelry and a cell phone were stolen Wednesday from a home in the 100 block of Belfast Avenue, deputies said. The thieves had smashed a door to get inside. The resident, A.C. Parrish, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,330 and damage at $150.
*A man's gold bracelet, a king-sized bed, a combination radio and compact disc player, a compact disc player, 20 CDs, a combination television and DVD player, a video cassette recorder and $500 in change were stolen between May 7 and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1000 block of Genoa Road, deputies said. The resident, J. Alfonzo Palomo-Martinez, estimated the stolen property's value at $2,570 and damage at $300.
*A pearl necklace and earrings were stolen Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Mill Creek Court, deputies said. The resident, Margorie Dozier, put a $200 value on the jewelry and set damage at $150. A box with other jewelry also was stolen but was recovered, the report said.
*A white golf cart was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 100 block of Jill Court, deputies said. The owner and resident, M.R. Whaley, said it was worth $1,800.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A window air conditioner, an aquarium, an exercise bike and a table were stolen between Saturday and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1200 block of North John Street, police said. The property, owned by the resident, Jerri Sherrod, was valued at $275 and damages were set at $280.
*Two secured bicycles were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday after a lock was cut in the 1500 block of Palm Street, police said. The resident, E.P. Bossert, said the bikes were valued at $1,200.
*A blue Winner moped was stolen before dawn today from the 600 block of South Best Street, police said. The owner and resident, James G. Brown, said he had left the key in the moped, valued at $1,000.
Wanted
A 26-year-old Goldsboro man is wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on two felony charges, larceny and possession of stolen goods. Jeremy Crawford's last-known address was on Becton Circle.
